Dal Vada Pita Pocket
Ingredients

For Dal Vada

  • Talod Dal Vada Mix – 1 packet (200 g)
  • Water – approx. ¾ cup
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp
  • Green chilli – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic – 1 tbsp
  • Fresh coriander – 2 tbsp
  • Oil – for deep frying

For Dal Vada Pita Pocket

  • Ready-made pita bread – 2 pieces
  • Hummus – 4 tbsp
  • Garlic sauce – 2 tbsp
  • Pickled vegetables – ¼ cup
  • Lettuce leaves – ½ cup
  • Prepared dal vada – 6–8 pieces

Method

  1. Empty the Talod Dal Vada Mix into a bowl and add water gradually as per instructions to form a thick batter.
  2. Add ginger, green chilli, garlic and coriander paste to the mixture and mix well to form a smooth batter.
  3. Let the batter rest for 10–12 minutes.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan. Drop portions of the batter into medium hot oil.
  5. Fry on medium flame until golden brown and cooked through from inside.
  6. Remove the dal vadas and drain on absorbent paper.
  7. To prepare the pita pocket, cut the ready-made pita bread into halves to form pockets.
  8. Spread hummus inside the pocket followed by garlic sauce.
  9. Add pickled vegetables.
  10. Place dal vada pieces inside along with lettuce leaves.
  11. Add a little more dal vada and close the pocket.
  12. Serve immediately.
